Back in the saddle again

It's been a long time. It's been a time trying to deal with everything...and finding time to blog has been hard enough on my other blog, much less this one. I've been doing a lot of thinking, about what I want to do and how things are going. I'm not going to say that things are better, but I'm ready to revive this blog for what it was intended for: knitting!

So here we go. I've been knitting a ton this spring...finishing a pair of socks, an aran sweater for Bruiser, the Lace ribbon scarf from knitty, and I've started the Pomotomous socks...which I've been putting off forever.

I have some issues with most sock patterns as written, as I have, apparently, wide feet and a high instep. Many socks are hard to fit on over my heel. I've since learned how to adjust a pattern for this, making the heel flap longer and adding more repeats to the gusset, and it's made life so much easier! I'm loving working on the Pomotomus, the chart is easy once you've done the repeats once. Since I'm on the second sock now, It's going so fast.

I'm making the cuff of the sock on size 2 needles, the heel flap on size ones, and finishing the sole on size two circs (since the number of stitches on the needles is not even, I found that this helps me avoid ladders). Yes, my gauge is different on the dp's from the circs, but since I'm making the same part of each sock with the same needles, I figure that it's not a big deal for me.

I bought some really lovely handpainted handspun from Heritage Spinning and Weaving for this project, and the yarn was too fine. The socks would have been to small for my feet, because the gauge went beyond snug to annoying....I"m kind of sad that I didn't get to use that yarn for it's intended pattern, but I'll still be able to use it for something!
